Assignment #3 "Netiquette" Online Discussion Boards

1. Many of these guidelines are similar to how we expect people to act face to face because it is like the same thing.  When talking face to face people try to be polite and respectful and the same goes for people talking on the internet.
2. Four guidelines I feel are extremely helpful and necessary when interacting with others in an online discussion are:  

• "Don't badmouth people or call them stupid.  You may disagree with the ideas but don't mock the person" because it can hurt their feelings if it gets back to them.
• "Don't type using all caps, if you do it looks like you're screaming", this could hurt their feelings and make them feel stupid or like they've done something wrong.
• "Be forgiving.  If your classmate makes a mistake, don't badger them about it, just let it go, it happens to the best of us", this will make them feel like it's okay to make mistakes and they will then not be afraid to mess 
• "Don't write anything that sounds mean or sarcastic, even as a joke, because without hearing your tone of voice they might not know you're joking.  

3. I have made comments on an online discussion board before, all good things were said and there was never a negative experience.  

4. I think would really enjoy a course where we could discuss issues online with other students.  I would enjoy this because I would like to help prevent it from happening again and warning people about what could happen.
